Lowestoft awarded Top Gold at the Australian Pinot Noir Challenge 2022

Lowestoft awarded Top Gold at the Australian Pinot Noir Challenge 2022

We are thrilled to announce that Lowestoft has been awarded Top Gold and classed as a regional finalist for Tasmania at the Australian Pinot Noir Challenge 2022. Results were announced last night at a sell-out awards dinner in Melbourne.

The Lowestoft 2020 Single Vineyard (Jacoben Vineyard) Pinot Noir was one of just three wines awarded Top Gold and 95 points for its class (Tasmanian 2020 & Older) – an incredible achievement for this outstanding wine.

This year’s show was the largest Australian Pinot Noir Challenge yet, with additional regional classes for Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. The growth in this competition recognises the increasing number of high-quality Pinot Noir wines produced across the country.

Chair of Judges Matt Harrop said: “There is an enormous amount of excitement and energy around Pinot Noir at the moment; not only in Australia but across the globe … With 21 gold medal wines from six different regions, nominating the best of each region came down to the wines which displayed a beautiful balance of site expression and winemaking technique.”

On these amazing Lowestoft results, Chief Winemaker Liam McElhinney said, "We are extremely proud to again have this wine achieve such an amazing result amongst a very strong group of wines. There were a lot of challenges throughout the 2020 vintage but we knew the fruit from Jacoben Vineyard had a bit of 'x factor'. This wine is a real credit to Fred Peacock and Robert Jak, who nurture this very special vineyard."

A huge congratulations to Liam and the whole Lowestoft team on these incredible results.
